Experience


Charles Hornewer has more than thirty years of trial experience in medical malpractice, product liability and other cases involving death or catastrophic injuries. He has also represented sporting event producers and athletes. In 1999, Mr. Hornewer was elected to the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates and is also a member of the Society of Trial Lawyers, American Association for Justice, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and Illinois State Bar Association.
A 1981 graduate of DePaul University College of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review, Mr. Hornewer is currently licensed to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and before state courts in Illinois. Formerly a Partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson’s Chicago Office, he has handled medical malpractice cases and other cases from the perspective of both the plaintiff and the defendant. He has lectured around the country on medical malpractice, trial practice and trial advocacy, and has also published extensively on these topics. Martindale-Hubbell has awarded him an "AV" rating, its highest rating for legal ability and ethics. He has also been recognized as an Illinois “Super Lawyer” as published in Chicago Magazine, and as an Illinois Leading Lawyer in the areas of Nursing Home Negligence and General Personal Injury Law.
